There are many nutrients that a dog also needs and can be added in the form of vegetables such as carrots, potatoes, celery, corn, and spinach. One recipe includes one cup cornmeal, one-fourth a cup of chicken and one tablespoon of carrots both ground up, and a small amount of bonemeal sprinkled in. Add a half a cup of water and cook and simmer until the chicken is done. Most food can be refrigerated for up to two days.
Certain foods must be avoided when making dog food such as chocolate or caffeine bearing products since it is known to cause seizures in dogs. Grapes, raisins, avocados, and onions should not be included in the food either. Avoid spices since some dogs can be sensitive to them as well.
