Labrador Retriever: Proper Labrador Breeding
A lot of people seem to focus on the money that can be made when it comes to Labrador breeding and they seem to forget that this is not a quick fix to their personal financial problems. Also, when giving proper Labrador care, there is going to be expenses involved that you are going to have to cover. Doing it right means that you will have a love for this breed and you want to share that with other people.
But in all honesty, you will not do that great of job if your heart is not in it for the right reasons. To be a success at this, you must know a lot of Labrador information and really have a need and a desire to want to share this breed with a lot of other people. Those who are in the breeding business for all the wrong reasons can often be spotted a mile away and most people will not purchase animals from places such as puppy mills.
There is no shame in admitting that you do not know everything there is to know about when it comes to Labrador breeding, but you must make sure that you learn before you attempt it. Make sure that you know as much Labrador information as possible because the last thing you want is to make mistakes that can either waste time and money, or harm the animals that are involved. This is vital in making sure that you are a success in your adventure.
Start by taking the dogs you wish to breed to the vet for a check up and explain that you plan on breeding them. With your vet knowing this, they will know what to give advice on and may even be able to give you some tips in order to help make everything go smoothly. It is important to really listen to what the vet has to say as the health of your dogs and their puppies depend on it and so does your extra income source.
There can be a lot of great advice found at the vet’s office if you are willing to listen and take it all in and with this, you will have better success in Labrador breeding.
Always remember that the health and happiness of the puppies that are born in your home is just as important as the adult dogs that you are using for breeding. Labrador care should always be your top priority, even if it means that you have to spend a little more money.
And even though it is never possible to be one hundred percent sure about the people that are coming to view and adopt your puppies, try to use your best judgment. If you feel uneasy about a person or you do not like the way they are handling the puppies, you do not have to sell them any.
This will help make sure that the Labrador information that they should be reading, is in their hands. If you give them something, they are more likely to read it then going out to find the information themselves.

I love what you say about having your heart makes all the difference. I have a black lab however, she isn’t my dog. She’s my princess. I love her with all of my heart and she is 2 days from whelping and I am a nervous wreck! We bought a king sized bed just so we could allow our babies(Jack&Lucy, not the litter) to sleep with us. At night, Lucy lies next to me and lets me feel the babies in her tummy. They wiggle and squirm and I think it is the most precious thing in the world, except for my own pregnancy of course.
To be a good breeder, you must love the breed. I love my babies. They are not dogs(that would offend them) they are my adopted kids!
