Dog: My Guidelines For Selecting a Quality Dog Crate For Your Family Dog
Thursday 2nd of September 2010It often takes a dog a while to adjust to a new home. A new dog may have an easier time transitioning if you use a dog crate. Crates help because they give your dog a safe place to go when everything around them is new. They also make house training your dog much easier. To have the best experience with a dog crate you need to buy the right kind. Dog crates come in different sizes so be sure to pick one that fits your dog.
If your dog is a puppy you can purchase a crate for your puppy to grow into. The crate should not be too large, however, or your dog may choose to use a back corner for a bathroom. Your dog will like the crate better if you add certain items to make it more comfortable. One important part of this is to add a soft dog crate bed. This turns the crate into a cozy haven where your dog can grab a nap or spend the night.
A regular dog bed will be fine for most dogs. Think about getting orthopedic dog crate beds if you have older dogs. Do not leave an older dog in a crate for a long time as it can make their muscles cramp. You should make sure that your older dog comes out of the crate every couple of hours so he can stretch his legs. A welcome addition to your dog crate will be some squeeze toys. It is a good idea to rotate a couple of toys in at a time to help prevent boredom. Some people like to place the dog’s water and food bowls near the crate. After your dog is reliably house trained you can remove the door and let your dog have the freedom to go in out as he chooses.
