I absolutely love to go on long hikes in the forest with my 2 Border Collies. They think its the best too. A run in the woods, a jump in the creek, what could be better?
Going for walks – taking the time to simply stroll, enjoying the weather/scenery, watching what he takes interest in, and just enjoying the time with him (with no destination in mind) is pretty close to heaven.
The walks help me forget a hectic corporate and personal life… while he gets to sniff and explore the world outside our home/yard.
Some say dogs can add years to your life – I am a believer.
I have a 10 week old german shepherd/lab mix. My favourite activity is to train it. She is very smart and can shake, sit, lie down, come and stay and is learning roll over.
Nothing makes me happier than to see her using her brain and learning new things.
I like just doing agility, but I have hunting dogs so I hunt with them. I like just walking by myself with them in the woods or in a secluded area, it is just calming.
The most important aspect of having Wren is just being companions, walking with her and watching her be gleeful, playing with her. Of course, all this has been a training journey to get her where she is, where I can trust her most explicitly, even if she kicks up a jack rabbit. And the training of her has been great fun, and the future training will continue to be great fun!
What I specifically chose her for, however, was to be my next agility dog. So, as far as an official “activity” it would be training and trialing in agility. Being a Border Collie that must have a job to do, being a very reactive breed, agility allows her to use her instincts to watch and play off movement, and to run like the wind Agility demands an incredible understanding between handler and dog and creates an amazing bond. The thrill to run at top speed with your dog, both reading and reacting off each other is impossible to explain. A turn off your head, a dip of your shoulder….so slight, but the dog reads it and responds.
Sure wish I had the time and $ to herd with her! The few times we have been out at a trainers has given me goose bumps….amazing watching dogs naturally do what they were bred to do!
My just barely 1 year old Rott/Cattle dog mix, absolutly loves playing in the hose. We put it on jet and she will chase the water all over the place. We’ve even bought her a kiddie pool to play in. Its tons of fun watching her.
She also loves playing with large rocks. Its a riot.
I love to hike with my foxhound. Up on a ridge here in Pa. and I let him go off his leash and he has a fun time chasing things and sniffing about.
I love to nap with my mastiff because he is a big suck and loves to snuggle.

We take our dog to a large park that has a farm animal enclosure in one corner. Its really funny watching them interact through the fence.
