Dog beds come in such a large variety of shapes, materials, sizes and styles, it can be difficult to know which bed will be the right one for your dog. Many dog owners prefer to have their dog sleep in bed with them. While that may or may not be your preference, it’s still important that your dog have his or her own bed to lie down and rest comfortably. Your dog’s bed should be placed in an area of the home where there is family activity and you can even put the dog’s toy box nearby. If you have a puppy, you may want to hold off on buying an expensive dog bed until after the puppy is through housebreaking and most of his or her teething. You can buy an inexpensive bed while the puppy is small or even use an old quilt or blanket until the likelihood of chewing has passed. To get the correct size dog bed for your dog, take time to observe your dog at rest and asleep to see what position the dog naturally assumes. Some dogs love to curl up tightly in a ball while others prefer to lie flat on their side with their legs straight out. Watch your dog sleeping and measure the area the dog’s body takes up while they’re lying down. This will give you the dimensions you’ll need when ordering a bed for your dog. Large square or round pillows are good for dogs who like to stretch out on their side. Beds with bumpers or walls surrounding the cushion are better for dogs that prefer to curl up. If your dog sleeps inside a crate, there are crate mats or pads that can be placed inside the

Question by : How to teach a dog to sleep in a dog bed?
Ok, so my weiner dog always jumps up on my bed, I push him off but he just comes back up. I then put him outside and shut the door he was scratching all night. I just put him in my bed because I needed sleep for a test tomorrow. Well, I bought him a new dog bed but he won’t go in it, he just runs straight back into my room. How can I teach him to stay in the dog bed?

I dunno, it’s your choice. If you’re really not sure, go go AKC’s website akc.org and search “Boxer” and it should tell you about them. There’s a a video here called “Dogs 101: Boxer”, it tells you about Boxers from history, grooming, temperament, and other things they need. You should do some research to see if a Boxer is just right for you and your family. Always talk to the people living in your house abot it so you can see what they think. It’s best to look for a good breeder from AKC.org.

His bed should be in your room for best results, with one of your shirts in the bed as a comfort factor. They like being near their pack when they sleep, you being his pack leader.

It’s just a matter of you not allowing him on the bed anymore, and putting him in his bed till he gets the idea. It will take a while because he is used to getting into your bed, but it can be done. Put his bed close enuf to your bed that you can just pick him up when he gets into your bed, say a loud NO, and put him into his bed. Have a treat nearby, and when he’s in his bed, give him a treat and say Good Boy!

Put him there during the day while you sit him. I suggest petting him, or etc. He’ll get used to it :)

Dogs are pack animals and like to sleep with others.

However, it’s like any other training exercise, except it will be more difficult due to the instinctive desire to sleep with the alpha dog (you). He’ll get the idea eventually, but you may be getting out of bed a few dozen times to get to that point.

Just use positive reinforcement and affection when he stays off your bed (the main objective – he’ll figure out that his bed is more comfortable than the floor and eventually start sleeping there).
